Last weekend Andy Lefevere and co-pilot Thijs Ozeel drove the Rally of the Monteberg. Especially for Thijs it was a busy weekend, on Friday night he got married and after a short wedding night he was already expected in Poperinge on Saturday afternoon for scrutineering and reconnaissance.
Right from the opening lap, the Porsche GT3 was able to run up front among the Rally 2 cars.
“It certainly didn’t go badly,” Andy Lefevere said afterwards.
“However, on the second lap it started to rain and on slicks with a rear puller in the rain was no gift. Even in fourth gear the wheels kept spinning… On the sixth test we lost contact with the front runners. Davy was driving Busseboom 2 on a practically dry test and we were driving in the rain. Without that 9 second loss we would have had a different race, but beating Davy would have been very difficult anyway. Especially considering the conditions of the last trial. On that last test I deliberately unloaded and brought the Porsche safely to the finish line. “
Andy and Thijs still finished a handsome third despite the rain, barely 20 seconds from the winners and more than a minute ahead of the next-to-last R5 car.
“So I am very happy with this podium finish, the hard work on the Porsche is paying off! The next race is the Rally 4 Porsche in the region of Huy, there we won’t be bothered by the R5 cars, ” laughs Andy who also plans to ride one or more races of the French dirt championship later this year.
