Last weekend, Andy Lefevere and Marc Noppe concluded their season with a fifth place in the Rally of Kortrijk. The Yprauto business manager was not on the road in Kortrijk with the Porsche 997, but he drove an R5 for the first time.
“I’m satisfied with our result,” Andy opens. “Too bad of course about the mistakes we made…. I shouldn’t go looking for excuses, I may be 47 years old but I allowed myself to be rushed again and made mistakes because of this. Especially that last mistake was too much, on kp Bellegem we were going around on a wide track at 150…. The engine stalled and I couldn’t get it going again right away. That’s where I lost touch with the leaders.”
Especially on the tests that were very dirty Andy Lefevere again showed his speed, it is clear that the Skoda Fabia R5 suits him.
“It is indeed a fun car in the rain, I had made my notes so that I knew where I could go straight without damage and I must say I am really impressed with the capabilities of this Skoda in these conditions.
But I’m still glad I chose a Porsche GT3 myself, I don’t know if it would be as much fun on a dry road surface. With an R5 you will indeed be able to win more, but the fun level is even higher in my Porsche…. SXM provided us with a perfect car and gave us excellent service during the race. Maybe one day I’ll drive the Condroz again in an R5, but I’m already looking forward to taking the Porsche out on track again next year.””
The season is now over for Andy Lefevere and he looks back on the season with great satisfaction waa he made the debut of the long awaited Porsche 997 GT3.
“We have had a great season. I definitely want to thank again everyone who made this possible, and especially our sponsors! We have a lot of partners who have been supporting us for several years and also contributed their bit this year to realize both the project with the Porsche and with this Skoda. I am happy that I was able to give them a nice season end with the victory in the Hemicuda and here in Kortrijk, without the mistakes, a podium place was also in the cards.”
