Last weekend the rally season concluded with the Rally of Kortrijk. But after selling the Mitsubishi Lancer, Andy Lefevere had to look for another car for this race.
“Partly in preparation for next season, we rented Chris Debyser’s Porsche 997 GT3,” Andy Lefevere opens the conversation. “The intention was to have fun, because a Porsche didn’t seem like the ideal car for the muddy roads around Kortrijk. But the car positively surprised us!”
The opening test at the Lavano site was particularly slippery and not really relevant to the rest of the race. It was also constantly searching for grip.
“The average speed was particularly low, but believe me driving faster was immediately punished…. Without that trial there was definitely more in it for us. Just like the test at ‘t Hoge, where we lost 5 seconds in the first 200 meters due to the cobblestone start.
In the other tests the car was very efficient. We had changed the settings and it was immediately noticeable. Thanks to those settings and the tire tips we got from Tim Van Parijs we could even register a second time. We finally finished eighth overall and this result has convinced me even more that we made the right choice with the purchase of a Porsche…”
In the coming months, work will continue in the Yprauto workshop in order to unpack in 2019 with their own Porsche.
“It was a busy year we drove 7 races and in addition we were also busy with the further expansion of ABA Car Tech, our second business in Kortrijk.” concludes Andy.
