Last weekend Andy Lefevere came to the start of the Aarova Rallysprint in Oudenaarde, not with the familiar Mitsubishi Lancer R4 but with Peter Demeyere’s Historic BMW.
“The purpose of this participation was first of all to tune the car better for Peter. On Saturday we worked on the setup and the result was there… With Päul Lietaer in the Escort BDA at the start, I thought it was going to be difficult, but the confidence was there right away. Polle made a small mistake on the first lap, but even after that we stayed faster…. ” said Andy Lefevere.
“I knew Andy was a good pilot, but what he showed me today was incredible.” Peter Demeyere told at the finish line. Peter was the co-pilot in Oudenaarde and also owns the BMW. “Sometimes I hear people say about Andy yes ‘t is not difficult to win with such a Lancer, but I invite everyone to sit next to Andy. I really learned a lot today, but also realize that I can’t do this by myself. “
“It had been a long time since I drove a rear tractor and of course it was enjoyable! Fortunately, I had not lost the ability to drive a rear tractor after all those years in an EVO, ” laughs Andy. “Peter will have a lot of fun with this car. I was very impressed with the braking power of this BMW, the engine was already good and I am convinced that the setup is a lot better now. “
Andy and Peter were 5th overall for a while but were overtaken on the last lap by the 4x4s of Vanderschelden and Bouvart. They won the historic class with 17 seconds ahead of Lietaer’s Escort.
