“It does indeed seem like a very strange choice,” laughs the Yprauto business manager. “I first thought of renting a car again for Courtrai, an R5 or so but actually I have a car standing around to drive fast. This is really for fun. “
This Mercedes 190 was purchased by Andy with an eye on the 2022 season, then Andy plans to have fun with this car on French dirt track.
“And above all I can once again enjoy myself without stress. This is also the intention in Kortrijk, the people who think that I will compete for a class victory or something like that are wrong. I want to have fun and test the car thoroughly. It is a completely newly built 190 in group A configuration like back then, so not spectacular in terms of power either, but very fun to slide from corner to corner…
Last weekend I went to the Condroz, and saw that this is the right choice. The first R5 cars are very fast and impressive, but personally I was looking forward more to the passages of Bjorn Syx and Pieter Jan Maeyaert…. “
After the Rally of Kortrijk, Andy will sit down with sponsors and co to see which races will be run in Belgium with the Porsche and which in France with the Mercedes.
