Despite a fine athletic performance, this weekend is one to quickly forget for Andy Lefevere.
“Saturday started the rally very well of course, but when I got home after the race I got the news that my mother had passed away… She had been ill for many years, and contact had been difficult lately but her passing came particularly hard… I barely slept that night, and also didn’t really know what to do, give up or carry on. But my mother always said ‘if I die when you are doing something nice, continue doing what you are doing'”
With those words from his mother in mind, Andy left for Koekelare on Sunday morning. “We had a good start on Saturday and I had made it a point of honor to win and dedicate the win to my mother. Then on the last lap a piece of plastic broke around the throttle cable and I had to give up… That came particularly hard, especially since this was a 20 Euro piece of plastic…”
Now Andy’s Porsche is going into hibernation and the business manager is looking at what races will be run next year. “Normally during the winter months I try to improve the car a bit each time, but now the car is in perfect shape! Fix the throttle cable and we can start again… We’ll see where and what we’ll drive next year.”
