No one finds it strange that engine oil needs to be changed regularly. Yet other parts lubricated with oil are regularly skipped during service intervals. This is especially true for cars with automatic transmissions.
To lubricate and cool the rotating parts in the automatic transmission, there is Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) oil in the gearbox. Due to internal contamination, wear, moisture and aging oil, the ATF oil slowly becomes contaminated and loses its working properties. Among other things, this causes the oil to thicken and lose its lubricating properties.
Yet some manufacturers say (many are now coming back to this) that their automatic transmission’s oil never needs changing. In practice, however, this does not seem to be entirely true.
Due to contamination of the ATF oil, oil channels, shift valves and slats slowly become contaminated. As a result, shifting gears no longer runs smoothly. If maintenance is not performed on time, this can eventually cause the automatic transmission to malfunction, after which the automatic transmission often needs to be renewed, overhauled or otherwise repaired, often resulting in an expensive bill.
Automatic transmission flushing is especially suitable for preventive maintenance similar to an engine maintenance service. By properly maintaining the gearbox, most gearbox related complaints (transmission failure) are preventable. Many complaints can be improved or eliminated by flushing and cleaning the automatic transmission but unfortunately we cannot give any guarantees on that. So give your automatic a flush before a failure occurs.
Does the manufacturer not prescribe any drain periods? Then, depending on use and load on the automatic transmission, we recommend having the ATF oil flushed every 60 to 120,000 kilometers. This will prevent many of the complaints.
Automatic flushing
Many cars today have an automatic transmission. Through use of the automatic gearbox, the ATF oil becomes contaminated and aged. Many automatic boxes are provided with long-life ATF oil from the factory. Practice shows, however, that over time this oil causes many problems. Therefore, have your automatic box flushed at Yprauto. This not only extends the lifespan, but also ensures more driving comfort. On this page you can read among others:
By what problems do I recognize that I need to flush my automatic?
Contaminated and outdated ATF oil causes your automatic transmission to cause bucking and bumping when shifting gears. Contaminated oil means gear changes are no longer smooth. ATF oil is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the environment (think condensation and the like). Due to usage wear of the torque converter and friction plates, these are a major source of dirt dispersion.
ATF oil change does not solve all problems
Draining the oil and refilling it in the regular way always leaves old oil in the torque converter. This is because it is not possible to drain it during start-up. After changing, the old and new oil mix with each other. This causes problems. The new oil has a cleaning effect and moves the dirt to places where it causes problems (in the valve block, steering valves and the like). These parts ensure that an automatic transmission shifts comfortably. With an ATF oil change, these parts become contaminated, reducing shifting comfort.
Automatic bucket flush debilitating solution
Flushing your automatic transmission (also known as flushing) is a better solution. When we flush your automatic transmission, we not only change all the oil, but foreign particles are also collected in a special filter (with a strong magnet) in the flushing machine. If you don’t have your automatic transmission flushed but just drain and change the oil, these particles will continue to float around in the automatic transmission.
By what do I recognize old ATF oil?
Old oil causes poor lubrication and therefore it is important not to continue driving with it, but how exactly do you recognize old ATF oil? Old oil is black and also has a strong burnt smell. New oil is bright red in color and has no burnt smell, but a distinctive odor of its own.
Is there quality difference of oil? Yes, one oil’s quality is better than another’s. Yprauto works with oil from only A quality brands that meet the specifications given by manufacturers.
When do I have my automaton flushed?
Automatic flush; When there are no factory specifications for flushing the oil in your automatic transmission, we recommend flushing your automatic transmission between 60,000 and 120,000 kilometers. The recommended interval depends greatly on the use of your car. For example, do you drive an SUV (BMW X5, Range Rover, Volvo XC90 and the like) and often tow a trailer? Then the ATF oil is more likely to become contaminated and aged than if you drive a small, light car and only run errands or take the kids to school once at most.
How to flush automatic transmission
When you have your automatic transmission flushed by Yprauto, your automatic transmission will be completely flushed and refilled with the correct oil. If desired, we can show you the old oil in a cup so you can discover the difference in color and smell for yourself.
We can also replace the filter in the automatic gearbox for you, but this is only done by mutual agreement. The accessibility of the filter in your automatic box is highly dependent on the type of car and the construction of the automatic box, which is why Yprauto only does this on request.
Experience has shown that it is better not to wait too long to flush your automatic box. When the real problems eventually arise, the costs are usually much higher. Mechanical wear and mechanical defects (such as jammed valves in the box) can only be fixed by overhauling and replacing defective parts. Therefore, have your automatic transmission flushed in good time to avoid high costs!
When is there no point in flushing the automatic transmission?
Yrauto is very experienced in automatic transmission flushing and in almost all cases it leads to positive results. However, there is no 100% guarantee. In fact, if mechanical wear is already present, flushing your automatic transmission will not fix it. For example, if you hear heavy metallic noises, the bearings are out and there is no point in flushing your automatic transmission. In this case, it is necessary to overhaul the automatic transmission.
Automatic transmission flush of Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Opel, Volvo etc.
Do you want to flush your automatic transmission? Yprauto can professionally flush the automatic transmission of all common brands. We have a fully automatic flushing machine with adapters to which almost any automatic gearbox can be connected. Do you drive a Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda or Seat with a DSG automatic transmission? Keep in mind that even then you should change the oil of the automatic gearbox periodically.
