After his good performance in the Staden Rally, Andy Lefevere was full of ambition Friday night in the ConXion Omloop van Vlaanderen. After the first day of competition, Lefevere’s Mitsubishi Lancer R4 was 5th overall after the fastest R5 cars and just ahead of the Porsches.
“Saturday morning, I immediately got the hang of it… At Passchendaele, I was almost half a minute slower than Princen, and the Porsches were also faster. In Houthulst, I set off with my knife between my teeth, but approached a corner a bit too enthusiastically… I started braking too late and ended up in the ditch, fortunately without significant damage, only the rear bumper was damaged. However, the car was too deep and we had to give up. ” said Andy Lefevere who, however, continued to follow the race as a spectator.
“I watched with great interest the battle in the Porsche Trophy. At Passchendaele, Gunther and Patrick were faster and that still confirmed that I made the right choice to build a Porsche. It was the first time I was satisfied that someone was faster, ” laughs the business manager of Yprauto.
Next weekend Andy Lefevere will be at the start of the Aarova Rallysprint in Oudenaarde, this time not with the Lancer but with Peter Demeyere’s Historic BMW. “I’m driving Oudenaarde together with Peter purely for fun, but I’m looking forward to driving this fun rear puller again.“
