Andy Lefevere and co-driver Andy Vangheluwe were able to win the Hemicuda Rally yesterday, it was the seventh victory in this race for the Yprauto business manager. It was also the very first victory with the Porsche GT3.
“And yet I hadn’t really seen this one coming, the course was particularly slippery. I had left Sunday morning on slicks because I knew that Houthulst was dry, but at Kortemark it was really sliding from corner to corner… It was really searching for traction all day, we don’t have the most spectacular riding style but our style is very efficient. I didn’t want to take any more risks towards the end yesterday, but we stayed off the handbrake and finished the race centrally .”
After the ConXion Omloop van Vlaanderen, hard work was done on the Porsche’s suspension, these modifications paid off. “I especially have to thank my mechanics for this, you should know how much work was done after Roeselare…. We really made a very big step this weekend, it’s nice to go into the winter like this. A few more details to adjust and we are ready to compete with the other Porsches next year. “
With the 7 wins in the Hemicuda Rally, Andy Lefevere is the record holder. He first won the race in 2002 with a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 6.5 and later repeated it with a BMW 325i E36, the BMW M3 E36, the BMW M3 E46 and twice with the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X.
